Memorial Day is a day of remembrance and respect for those that have died serving our nation.
To help re-educate and remind Americans of the true meaning of Memorial Day, the “National Moment of Remembrance” resolution was passed on Dec 2000 which asks that at 3 p.m. local time, for all Americans “To voluntarily and informally observe in their own way a Moment of remembrance and respect, pausing from whatever they are doing for a moment of silence or listening to ‘Taps.”
As a mom, my heart goes out the many moms that have children in the armed forces as well as the many moms serving our country.
Recently, Army Specialist Zachary Boyd, 19, of Fort Worth, Texas, was photographed in his pink “I Love NY” boxers and flip flops. He rushed from his sleeping quarters on to join fellow platoon members at a base in Afghanistan’s Kunar Province after the unit came under fire from Taliban positions.
These men and women have so much pride, honor, courage, and integrity.
No matter what your stance is on the war, or your political affiliation, please take a moment to remember and honor those that have died fighting for our many freedoms.
A special Memorial Day honor to my dad, Retired Reserve Army Lt. Colonel Gus Strassburger and one of my BFF’s (and Hot Mama) Air Force Major L.B Slade.

Cristiano Ronald and Lionel Messi are two of the biggest names in soccer, but I don’t think their determination is comparable to that of Nico Calabria. Nico was born without a right hip or leg but that never stopped him from playing sports and competing. At the age of 5 this one legged phenom started(…)
When Ethan King was 10 years old he founded an organization, Charity Ball. During a trip to Mozambique with his father to rehabilitate water wells Ethan was in disbelief seeing what the children used for a soccer ball. He witnessed kids playing futbol with wrapped twigs and tattered balls. He decided to help. Four years later(…)
Apparently April 10 is a holiday other than Babyface’s birthday. According to every outlet of social media, it’s National Siblings Day. Facebook timelines and Instagram feeds were flooded with sibling photos. #NationalSiblingsDay has been trending on Twitter for 2 days. Did I miss the memo? We all know we have never heard of this til(…)
In May 2013 Cheerios launched a commercial that possibly changed marketing strategies for many companies. The ad featured an interracial couple and their biracial daughter. It was met with mixed reviews, mostly positive. However, the negative comments received much publication. Honey Maid has picked up the baton in showcasing modern family structures with a commercial(…)
A funny story that happened a couple years ago: Getting Mo to school is like my daily mommy boot camp. It’s almost mandatory to go into General Nora role to complete all the morning tasks. Get up early, make breakfast, pack his lunch, wake Mo, wake B, get B ready, get myself ready, get out(…)
School drop off line is heaven sent! A few years ago I had to wake up before the birds, trek over the Hill, and take Mo to school. I discovered the wonder of drop off line. After waking up a toddler and getting Mo ready for school, some mornings I wouldn’t have time to brush(…)
