For the 2015-1016 school year Vallecito Elementary in San Rafael, California will be the first school in the country with all standing desks. The standing desks movement was initiated by 2 parents at the school, Juliet and Kelly Starrett, co-founders of a Cross-fit gym. It’s been said that sitting is the smoking of the younger generation. According(…)
It is privilege to witness greatness. While I’ve always loved sports, I didn’t always watch ESPN. I remember one day flipping through the channels and seeing a young man talking sports with a fresh fade and high energy. I had never seen anything like it. I was used to seeing cardboard cutout talking heads, but(…)
I love a gift bag as much as the next person who loves freebies, but we are going too far. There’s a new trend developing and it’s parents giving gift bags to airplane passengers for baby’s first plane ride. At first I thought, oh this is cute, then I realized, No….no, it’s not cute at(…)
I had a wonderful opportunity to appear as a guest on The Doctors. I was brought together with one of my Facebook friends, Dr. Rachael on the show. After being Facebook friends for a few years we finally met in person. I loved talking about 2 of my favorite things: SOCIAL MEDIA & MOTHERHOOD. Who(…)
LA Galaxy & USMNT legend, Landon Donovan played in his last Los Angeles home game. Thanks to the great people at SoCal Honda, my 10 year old and I were able to cheer him on before a sold-out crowd. The Galaxy battled MLS foe, Seattle Sounders. The game ended in a riveting 2-2 tie. It(…)
College prep is a big focus of attention for parents. We want to ensure our kids are well equipped when we send them off to pursue higher learning. We help them with SAT skills, we stress academics throughout their youth, and we take them shopping for dorm life. If your child is an athlete, you must(…)
Facebook feeds, Twitter timelines and Instagram have been taken over by the ALS #IceBucketChallenge. Former Boston College baseball star Pete Frates, age 29, is the inspiration behind the viral ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. He’s lost his speaking voice as a result of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) however the viral Ice Bucket Challenge campaign he’s inspired(…)
When I had my first son my mom and I somewhat butted heads. That’s an understatement. My mom used the ole, “I raised YOU so I MUST know what I’m doing.” I’m not sure if it was a Gemini/Aries thing, mother/daughter thing, hormones, or what…but she had her ideas on child rearing and I had(…)
I can’t remember the last time I bought a women’s magazine. I love fashion but I don’t like the fake ideology many magazine covers represent. When the world’s most beautiful supermodels, actresses, and entertainers are airbrushed and photoshopped what message does that send to women??? I’m pretty comfortable with my freckles, laugh lines, and crooked teeth.(…)
Memorial Day is a day of remembrance and respect for those that have died serving our nation.
To help re-educate and remind Americans of the true meaning of Memorial Day, the “National Moment of Remembrance” resolution was passed on Dec 2000 which asks that at 3 p.m. local time, for all Americans “To voluntarily and informally observe in their own way a Moment of remembrance and respect, pausing from whatever they are doing for a moment of silence or listening to ‘Taps.”
As a mom, my heart goes out the many moms that have children in the armed forces as well as the many moms serving our country.
Recently, Army Specialist Zachary Boyd, 19, of Fort Worth, Texas, was photographed in his pink “I Love NY” boxers and flip flops. He rushed from his sleeping quarters on to join fellow platoon members at a base in Afghanistan’s Kunar Province after the unit came under fire from Taliban positions.
These men and women have so much pride, honor, courage, and integrity.
No matter what your stance is on the war, or your political affiliation, please take a moment to remember and honor those that have died fighting for our many freedoms.
A special Memorial Day honor to my dad, Retired Reserve Army Lt. Colonel Gus Strassburger and one of my BFF’s (and Hot Mama) Air Force Major L.B Slade.
