Cristiano Ronald and Lionel Messi are two of the biggest names in soccer, but I don’t think their determination is comparable to that of Nico Calabria.
Nico was born without a right hip or leg but that never stopped him from playing sports and competing. At the age of 5 this one legged phenom started playing soccer, trained in gymnastics, and wrestled in high school. At age 13 he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro while raising over $100K for charity. At 19 years old he currently plays for the U.S Amputee National Soccer team.
His determination, heart, and drive is beyond inspiring. He credits his family. “My parents always instilled in an attitude of, ‘Hey, tough luck, man. You were born with one leg. Now make the best of it.’”
You gotta respect this young man’s passion, “No pity. No differences. I just want to be seen as an equal, as someone that is a competitor.”
Nico is featured in a World Cup Powerade ad for the #PowerThrough campaign. A big salute to them both for inspiring people everywhere to never give up!
