Soooo…I told you guys I was in the process of applying to school for my MBA.
It’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a while and just had to step up and do it.
I spent 8 years in the work force, then 8 years being a stay at home mom. Next up, geauxing back to school.
This is a similar path my Mom took. She raised my sister and I as a stay at home mom then went back to school. I am honored to hopefully be following in her footsteps. If she could do it, so can I.
I was excited and nervous to share my news about my choice to pursue higher education. Here’s my family’s reactions:
Me: I’ve decided to geaux back to school for my MBA.
My Dad: (I could hear his smile through the phone) That’s a great idea!!!
My Mom: How exciting. I’m very proud of you.
My Sister: Awesome! What can I do to help?
I knew my family would be very supportive. They have always been huge supporters of education. My Dad has his MBA from the University of Chicago, my sister has her Master’s from SAIS Johns Hopkins, and my mom has 2 Master’s Degrees from GA State University.
Next up, was telling the boys. I really wasn’t sure what to expect from them.
Me: Mommy is going back to school.
B: Will you color at your school?
Mo: (tears in his eyes) Oh no…who will take care of us???
In that moment seeing Mo’s despair at the thought of being without me while I pursued my degree, I was truly thankful for the LSU MBA online program. Being able to continue to raise my kids while being in school is ideal. Although it will take balance and discipline, it’s such a dream to be able to do both at the same time (and of course at the greatest school in the NATION!).
I’ve been consumed with the application process and studying for the GRE’s. I thought breastfeeding for 15 months was hard…SHOOOOT….trying to remember high school algebra and geometry is giving that a run for the money!
I will say as an
older seasoned student I’m more disciplined and take in the learning material much easier. I only have 3 weeks to prepare for the entrance exam which means long days and nights of studying. Perhaps the fatigue and sleepless nights of raising kids prepared me for this.
For anyone toying with the decision of going back to school, sometimes you just have to do it. The PERFECT time will never come, you just have to make the commitment and decide it’s what you want to do.
I’ll keep you posted, back to studying!!!!
