The spirit of the Olympics is encouragement and support.
After reading a snide, tacky, and tasteless article in the NY Times I feel the need to extend some encouragement and support to USA Olympian (and LSU alum) Lolo Jones.
I follow Lolo Jones on Twitter.
She is the most followed Track and Field athlete on Twitter.
She doesn’t have a publicist tweeting politically correct quotes or post self promoting links.
Lolo Jones actually talks about the good and bad in her life.
She’s very open and honest.
She often downplays her looks and is very humble about her athletic ability.
She uses humor to talk about music, farts, her faith, Tim Tebow, and being a Virgin.
I respect that she stays true to herself and offers her fans a glimpse into her life.
A downfall of being open is that assholes people misinterpret things you say or misjudge you.
In a recent NY Times article, Lolo is criticized and attacked, “Jones has decided she will be whatever anyone wants her to be — vixen, virgin, victim — to draw attention to herself and the many products she endorses.”
The article is so vindictively written one would wonder if author Jere Longman was dissed at the Jr/Sr Prom by the beauty. #wounded
I mean DAYUM, did this dude geaux to Bama or something? So much disdain towards the former LSU Tiger.
I find it ironic that an article denouncing Lolo and how she isn’t media worthy is even published.
Why not showcase something positive about other athletes then? Oh gee, because the publication is capitalizing on the popularity of Lolo.
Lolo didn’t medal at London 2012, she came in 4th place. Hmm…being the 4th fastest woman to run the 100 meter hurdles is nothing to balk at.
In addition to being a 2 time Olympian, here are some of Lo’s other accomplishments:
Three-time USA Indoor champion
Two-time World Indoor champion
Indoor 60m American record holder
2008 VISA Humanitarian Athlete of the Year
11-time NCAA All-American
In her spare time, she’s overcome obstacles like poverty, being homeless, and injuries.
Yet she is criticized that her publicity is not based on achievement, but on “her exotic beauty and on a sad and cynical marketing campaign.”
It’s not Lolo’s fault she has showstopping good looks and a killer six hundred pack (Dayum, I hate her! lol)
Just because you’re beautiful and sexy doesn’t mean you didn’t work hard to be where you are.
HELLLLLOOOOOOO….
Just ask Danica Patrick, David Beckham, Ryan Lockte, Tyson Chandler, Jenny Finch, Hope Solo…the list goes on and on.
While Lolo is getting bashed by 1 idiot writer, she continues to inspire many others with her class, wit, heart, and athletic ability.
Geoff Calkins wrote an article in support of Lolo. He reminds us, “Considering everything, Jones did extraordinarily well Tuesday night. One year after spinal surgery, knowing that some were calling her a fraud, she went out, in the rain, and ran her best time of the season. The three medalists had to run their personal bests to beat her.”
LoLo didn’t win an Olympic medal, but she will continue to win over the hearts of many . Continue to inspire and be great.
GEAUX LEAUX LEAUX GEAUX!
You can see Lolo’s emotional reaction to the article on The Today Show:
