Justin Combs, son of rap mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs and celeb stylist Misa Hylton has signed a national letter of intent to play football for UCLA on a full scholarship.
This happened back in February on National Signing Day, but for some reason it is making it’s way into the mainstream news now.
There are many critics outraged that because he is the son of a wealthy family, he should “give the scholarship back”.
I am amazed at how ignorant people can really be.
This is what annoys me about society and the media…
This young man had a dream and worked hard to achieve it. Now he is getting criticized because HIS FAMILY had a dream, and worked hard to achieve it?! Just because they have money he shouldn’t be entitled to a scholarship he EARNED?!!!?
This is some BUUUUULSHIT *Chris Tucker voice*
First of all, I applaud anyone venturing off to college. That itself is an amazing accomplishment.
Earning a scholarship for excellence in any area takes an extreme amount of initiative, focus, determination, and drive.
This young man is trying to create his own path and pursue a dream he is passionate about. Why are people knocking him? Because his dad is Diddy? Soooo, that’s even more reason to commend him for being his own man, stepping out of his father’s shadow, and doing what he loves.
It’s like he can’t win. If he decided to be a rapper, critics would say he’s only doing it because of his dad. And now, he’s earned a scholarship and people are saying he shouldn’t keep it because of his dad.
To me, saying he shouldn’t have the scholarship that he EARNED is like telling kids who have money, don’t work hard or have goals because Daddy has money and will pay your way.
This is just sending the wrong message.
Justin did the right thing. Let him celebrate his success. He should not feel guilty for his accomplishment.
The young man earned a $54,000 MERIT scholarship. The UCLA Athletic Department awarded him a scholarship based on his on field accomplishments, not to mention the 5-foot-9, 175-pound defensive back also earned a 3.75 GPA.
So, lemme get this right, people want an 18 year old young man who worked hard to earn a scholarship to a great University to give his up just bc his Dad has Benjamins???
Who are you people?!
All you critics need to sit down. You could learn a thing or 2 from the young Mr. Combs who tweeted:
Regardless what the circumstances are, I put that work in!!!! PERIOD. Regardless of what you do in life every1 is gonna have their own opinion. Stay focused, keep that tunnel vision & never 4get why u started.
I love the Mama Bear protective instinct. His mom, Misa Hylton responded via twitter:
My Son is his own man. He will earn his own way through life. I’m so proud of my baby ♥ it starts now! He is exactly the young man I raised him to be ☺ #independent #hardworking #intelligent
You tell em Ms. Misa!
Regardless of financial status, that is what all parents strive for. We want our children to grow into independent, hardworking, intelligent people. She is waay more diplomatic than me! I can already imagine my potty mouth rant if someone criticized my son. LOL Way to go Misa.
Congratulations to the entire family.
A college scholarship is an incredible achievement worthy of celebration. I sincerely hope the critics don’t ruin this wonderful moment for them.
There is no doubt in my mind that a Diddy Auditorium or Sean Combs Bruins Locker Room will be in the works over the next 4 years at UCLA. Diddy has proven to be very gracious and generous. Let’s see what happens!
Ya never know, the Bruins might be rockin some Sean John unis next season.
Just remember tho, LSU is the #1 football team in the nation!!! UCLA betta hope they never cross paths with the Tigers.
Sorry, ya’ll know I couldn’t talk college football without shouting out my school
