Mommy Fun

Someone asked me what I like to do for fun.

I couldn’t believe how long it took me to come up with an answer.

Of course, my 1st answer was spend time with kids. I mean, being a stay at home mom isn’t easy, but me and the boys always have a great time together. There is never a dull moment and always tons of laughs.

Then they said, “no, fun, as in for youself…not being a mommy”.

As a single mom, I’m pretty much mommy all the time. So it dawned on me I really don’t do much for myself.

I’m ok with this though, because while many young girls dream of growing up to be a ballerina, teacher, actress, or FBI agent <my sister…I always dreamed of becoming a MOM.

So for me, raising 2 boys is my lifelong dream.

But outside of my children, I am happiest when I’m doing something easy with people I love. When I’m around good friends, all I need is a few laughs.

Even growing up, I found the most fun in laughing and doing simple things like just plain goofing off and acting like an idiot.

Many years later, not much has changed.

I don’t drink or don’t do drugs, but I do laugh…A LOT.

Having fun for me is just being able to relax and be me.

After many years, I’ve finally realized that it’s ok to be a woman outside of being in mommy mode.

So….on the rare occasions I’m hanging with the girls, it doesn’t matter where we go, what we do, or what I’m wearing, LAUGHTER is an essential ingredient to having fun.

Having fun and being happy as a woman, makes having fun and being happy as a Mom much easier.

One of the most important parenting lessons I’ve learned is that it is essential to have fun outside of being a parent.

As nurturers and protectors, it is natural for moms to feel guilty doing this, but now….I’ve pretty much perfected the art of fun and laughter!
