Since I have 2 boys, I was extra moved by the incredible achievement of the young men at Urban Prep Academy in Chicago.
For the second year in a row, the all African American male charter school with students from the city’s worst neighborhoods is sending the entire senior class to a 4 year college/university. *PAUSE* I know that was a huge run-on sentence, but did you hear what I just said????
For the second year in a row, the all African American male charter school with students from the city’s worst neighborhoods is sending the entire senior class to a 4 year college/university. I am so incredibly impressed by this. My hats off to the school, young men, and their families.
The graduating class of 104 students were accepted into 103 colleges.
When Urban Prep Charter Academy and founder Tim King first opened it’s Englewood Campus in 2006,only four percent of the school’s first freshman class was reading at grade level when they entered. What an amazing accomplishment of hard work and commitment. I hope these young men continue to inspire, achieve, and believe.
The Urban Prep Creed
We are the young men of Urban Prep.
We are college bound.
We are exceptional-not because we say it, but because we work hard at it.
We will not falter in the face of any obstacle placed before us.
We are dedicated, committed and focused.
We never succumb to mediocrity, uncertainty or fear.
We never fail because we never give up.
We make no excuses.
We choose to live honestly, nonviolently and honorably.
We respect ourselves and, in doing so, respect all people.
We have a future for which we are accountable.
We have a responsibility to our families, community and world.
We are our brothers’ keepers.
We believe in ourselves.
We believe in each other.
We believe in Urban Prep.
