Sweet Blackberry

I recently attended a fundraiser for Sweet Blackberry. No, I’m not referring the my beloved smart phone. I’m talking about the non-profit organization whose mission is to bring little known stories of African American achievement to children everywhere.

Actress, and mother of 2, Karyn Parsons (A.K.A Hilary Banks) was inspired to create Sweet Blackberry by the birth of her first child and her awareness of her own responsibility as a parent to supplement her child’s education. Sweet Blackberry’s mission is to ensure that stories of African-American achievement will not be lost to history. They will teach, inspire and empower children now and forever.

Karyn is passionate about Sweet Blackberry and educating youth about the contributions of historical figures such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.Zora Neale Hurston, and Sojourner Truth. Through storytelling narrated by Hollywood celebrities like Queen Latifah and Alfre Woodard, Karyn hopes to excite and interest children about history.

Bill Hammond and his amazing team at Hammond Entertainment put together a spectacular fundraising event at the home of Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx (don’t worry ya’ll, I didn’t steal anything, but I did eat my fair share of crab cakes with Spinach dipping sauce).

It was a grand affair of food, drinks, laughs, and fundraising.
