Joakim Noah and Morris

Morris likes basketball. He was shooting on a 6 ft goal at 18 months old, and 8 foot goal by 2 years old.

But, recently he has discovered a LOVE for basketball.

While changing channels the other night, we caught a glimpse of a guy running on the basketball court. He had a long curly ponytail (just like Morris), and a weird beard/moustache (unlike Morris). His name is Joakim Noah, center/power forward for the Chicago Bulls. He’s the son of retired tennis star Yannick Noah, and former Miss Sweden, Cecilia Rhode (by comparison, does that make ME Miss Sweden?).

From that moment on, Morris was mesmerized. He watched the entire playoff game, cheering mainly for Joe Pete. I was like, “who is Joe Pete?” Morris said, “the guy with the ponytail.” He’s still working on getting Joakim’s name right.

At first, I thought it was a clever ploy to stay up past his bedtime (I used to do the same thing when I was a little girl. My mom would watch Falcon Crest and I pretended I was really into in so I didn’t have to go to bed).

But when he woke up in the morning, he asked to watch the game again (anything that takes precedent over wii is MAJOR). You do realize we’re talking about a sport where the final “20 seconds” really takes 10 minutes. These games are loooong.

I must admit, it’s pretty exciting as a mom to watch my son be so passionate about something. He jumps up and down when the Bulls score, calls other players “jerk” when they foul Joakim Noah, screams “rebound” when they’re on defense, and gets anxious when the opponent scores. We’ll see how long this lasts, but I have a feeling Morris will be into “Da Bulls” for  a while.

Falcon Crest…those were the days. Lorenzo Llamas was the only reason me and my mom watched.
    Morris is a rock star!

Yeah, it is a little odd.  And I thought Morris was unique!

Way to go, Mo-Mo!  Not only did you have a supportive Mama, you also got yourself a neat role model.  You got another reason to keep your hair too.  How about that sport fan?   I love watching you play ball. Soooooooo Proud!

What a strong similarity. Does your son still like basketball?
